Artist Statement

From magnetic poetry under a glass tabletop to a blanket of tiny-mirrored squares placed below a tree, my work is an exploration of contrasting forms and materials with an emphasis in repetition. I seek to challenge my audience and enable them to interact with my work in a variety of ways.

Beyond my furniture's basic use, I strive to build pieces that are multi-functional, which adds a layer of interest to provoke engagement by the viewer. I am attracted to the meditative process of creating repeated patterns, which enhances the structure and aesthetic appeal to my furniture. A system of duplicated forms attracts an audience, as they search for human error.

I take my interest in three-dimensional objects to a different level when transporting it outdoors, employing unusual heights and surface treatments to evoke certain reactions to the work. I like to create installations that are happened upon and unexpected, often choosing to integrate the beauty of the landscape rather than obstruct it. This creates work that can be easily over-looked, but once discovered becomes a unique and memorable experience.

The objects I create are an extension of my environment and the people in it. Whether by new materials or techniques, I am continually searching for innovative ways to provoke curiosity.
